Fees and Costs
As private specialist, our fees do attract the Medicare rebate, but a referral from your family doctor is required.
Please note that certain procedures are not covered by Medicare and are not entitled to a rebate. Second Skin Dermatology is not a private hospital, and private health insurance coverage does not apply for gap payments.

2025 Medicare Safety Net Thresholds
General individuals and families: $2,615.50
Concession & Family Tax Benefit A Families: $834.50
We strongly encourage you to check your eligibility for the Medicare Safety Net, as it can make a big difference to your out-of-pocket costs over the year.
Family Safety Net.
Families need to register with Medicare to combine their out-of-pocket costs. This is no utomatic, even if you are all on the same Medicare car
How it helps.
- Once your annual threshold is reached, Medicare will cover 80% of your out-of-pocket costs (up to item caps), in addition to your regular rebate.
- This applies to all eligible out-of-hospital services, not just at our clinic.
Example.
• For a standard $600 review, once you have reached the threshold your out-of-pocket cost drops to around $83 per session.
Good to know.
- Payments to GPs, specialists, and other Medicare-claimable services all count toward your Safety Net.
- The threshold resets on 1 January each year.
