Expert full skin examinations consistently detect skin cancers when they are thinner and earlier and therefore have a better prognosis.  Dermatologists are experts at skin examination and arguably the best at this.

Second Skin Dermatology has it’s own minor operating theatre and many skin cancers can be excised here without needing to attend hospital.  Some cancers can be treated non surgically and Dr Shannon will be able to advise about this. Some of the other treatments that can be used in the appropriate context are PDT, Aldara etc.

Treatment of psoriasis including NBUVB light therapy, topical creams, Acitretin, cyclosporine, methotrexate, Humira, Enbrel, Cosentyx, and others.

There are many different types of dermatitis – allergic, irritant, seborrhoeic dermatitis, and accurate diagnosis and treatment make a big difference. If allergic dermatitis is suspected then Dr Shannon can conduct patch testing, or RAST tests. If treatment is required then Dr Shannon can offer a full range of treatments – from simple measures, topical emollients, topical steroids, NBUVB, oral steroids, cyclosporine, imuran, and more.

PDT is a treatment option for thin lesions such as actinic keratoses, superficial multifocal basal cell carcinomas and others. Photodynamic therapy is an exciting and innovative non-surgical treatment for selected superficial skin cancers, avoiding the scar and potential problems of traditional surgery. Dr Shannon can offer both traditional red lamp PDT, and Daylight PDT.

Sweaty armpit treatment – botox for hyperhidrosis – with a Medicare rebate to help make this affordable. In most cases you can book an appointment and attend and if you meet the diagnostic criteria – you may receive the injections all on the one visit. This is generally well tolerated, takes about 2-3 days to start to work and lasts 2-3 months.

Hair loss, for both men and women, at a fraction of the cost of attending a “clinic” and without the hype. There are many different types of hair loss and accurate diagnosis and treatment is essential. Dr Shannon is particularly interested in hair loss – and will be able to assist you with male pattern baldness, female pattern baldness,  chronic telogen effluvium, alopecia aerate, folliculitis de calvans, Frontal Fibrosing Alpecia of Kossard, Lichen plano Pilaris and more. Dr Shannon is particularly interested in the relationship between certain types of hair loss and insulin resistance.

Acne scarring is complex. Ideally preventing the scars before they happen is ideal. Dr Shannon has a variety of treatments to offer patients suffering acne scarring.

There are literally thousands of dermatological diagnoses, from lupus, to sarcoid, to bullous pemphigoid, to Pityriasis  Rubra Pilaris to just name a few. A well trained, observant and experienced dermatologist is your best plan to sort and treat these conditions.

Dr Shannon can offer you extensive patch testing to help identify an allergen that you may be reacting to. This is an arduous test, during which you can’t  wash or sweat for the five days of the test. Patch testing is not useful for patient with suspected food allergies, or food intolerances.
